Story:

From Tatiana’s TOMATObase

The name means 'Malachite Box' in Russian. Malachite is a green mineral that has been mined in the Urals, Russia, and in Timna, Israel (King Solomon's Mines). Malachite was commonly used in Russia in the 18th and 19th centuries for Malachite jewelry boxes, and it is still very popular as a gem in silver jewellery.

This tomato variety was bred by Russian Farm 'Svetlana' and tested in Siberia region. The seeds were sent to Tatiana Kouchnareva (B.C KO T) as part of a large seed exchange with Tamara Yaschenko of Biysk, Siberia, Russia in 2006. Tatiana grew it in 2006 and offered it in the 2007 SSE Yearbook. Tatiana sent seeds to Jere Gettle at Baker Creek Seeds in 2007 through a SSE request. Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds offers this variety in their seed catalog since 2008.
